Chapter 13

As the horde pressed in, a wall of snarling fury, Leo stepped forward, his voice slicing through the chaos like a knife. “Listen to me!” He raised his axe, the blade gleaming ominously in the flickering firelight. “This isn’t just about survival! It’s about our home, our people! We fight together, we win together! We hold this ground!”

His words hung in the air, electrifying the defenders. Hope sparked like kindling in dry brush. The townsfolk, battered and bloodied, began to stir, their fear melting into a fierce resolve.

A group of young men and women, once huddled behind the barricades, sprang into action. They grabbed whatever they could find—sticks, rocks, anything that could serve as a weapon. With newfound determination, they joined the soldiers at the front lines, their adrenaline pushing them past the terror that had gripped them moments before.

A man in his fifties, face streaked with dirt and sweat, snatched up a spear from a fallen soldier. With a roar of defiance, he lunged forward, driving the spear into a beast’s neck. Blood sprayed, hot and slick, as the creature crumpled, and a fierce cheer erupted from the defenders.

Even the wounded refused to concede defeat. A soldier, his leg mangled and twisted, grunted with effort as he pulled himself up, each movement a symphony of pain. Clenching his jaw, he fished a plasma grenade from his belt, summoning every ounce of strength left in him. With a grunt, he hurled it at a cluster of monsters closing in on a nearby group of civilians. The explosion erupted like a sun, flames and shrapnel consuming the closest creatures, sending others staggering back in shock.

Seeing the tide beginning to shift, Leo felt the weight of the moment press against his chest. He wouldn’t waste it. He stepped back, calling on the raw power of his spells.

Pyroclasm (Level 49): subject can channel the power of a volcanic eruption, sending molten lava cascading down upon enemies, dealing massive damage over time.

The ground trembled as he channeled the ferocity of a volcanic eruption. A torrent of molten lava surged forward, cascading down upon the horde like hellfire unleashed. The ground bubbled and roiled, the air thick with the acrid scent of burning flesh and charred earth. Monsters screamed as they were engulfed, their forms twisting in agony, reduced to smoking remains. The heat radiated outward, searing the air and driving back those who dared approach.

But he wasn’t done yet. In a heartbeat, Leo unleashed his next spell.

Thunderstrike (Level 10): Upon impact, Thunderstrike releases a wave of electrified energy that surges through the ground, hitting all enemies within a certain radius. This area-of-effect attack damages multiple targets and disrupts their formation, giving you and your allies an advantage in battle.

The command echoed in the tumult, and a wave of electrified energy surged through the ground, a crackling tempest that surged outward. The shockwave hit the monsters like a freight train, disrupting their ranks, knocking many off their feet. They writhed and convulsed, their forms jerked by the current, chaos blooming in their midst.
